More about the eMCIA.

The Motorcycle Industry Association (www.mcia.co.uk) is establishing the eMCI to represent the specific needs of those with an interest in accelerating the adoption of electric and alternative Powered Two Wheelers (PTW’s) in the UK.

Driven by enthusiasm for greener, low emission transport alternatives, the sector is expanding rapidly. However, barriers to market exist in new product development, infrastructure, marketing, distribution and legislation that must be overcome in order for the sector to flourish. Although the market is in its infancy, it is vitally important that Alternative PTW’s are included in Transport Policy planning now.

With fragmented and limited communication and a diversity of opinion amongst key players concerning future development, the eMCI’s aim is to fully exploit the enormous potential to deliver an Ultra Low Carbon transport solution by harmonising and focusing the sector, protecting, promoting and expanding the market with one single and strong industry voice.

When out demonstrating the Quantya electric dirt bikes, or talking to people at trade shows, it is often the case that people do not see the point of having an electric dirt bike. It sounds pretty crazy but for many people the noise and smell produced by combustion engines is as much the attraction as the thrill of riding a motorbike. This is more than likely a by product of the fact you have not been able to have the option of a dirt bike without the noise and smell before.

It is our aim to show people they can have the same fun without the noise and smell. The smell is really much less of a buzz than the noise. It is essentially just fumes from the burning fuel, and is very unhealthy to breathe in. The noise one of the biggest issues off road bikes have had to contend with. The noise produced by scramble bikes carries and can typically be heard for up to 5 miles depending on the wind. There is a pretty decent chance of offending someone when the noise carries that far.

The noise is also a problem when out riding recreationally where you may meet other outdoor enthusiasts. Horses and ramblers in particular can feel intimidated by bikes.

It is important to decide what you enjoy the most. The freedom and thrill of riding a motorbike or the noise and smell associated with motorbikes. Would you not be willing to make the small sacrifice, lose the noise and smell, but gain endless amounts of riding areas. When you can say your motorbike is silent and creates zero emissions you have a lot of power behind you when it comes to protecting riding areas, and gaining new ones.

We are working hard to share this vision and belief. However we need your help. We need people to follow this movement and back us up. We want people to come and try the bike, and see what it can do. So far it has not failed to impress, and we have seen a lot of big grins. This proves to us the Quantya electric dirt bike is ready to go out and change the world.

Quantya has been out there showing people that electric is the future for dirt bikes and enduro bikes. Having an industry giant such as KTM announce that they too will be producing an electric FMX is great news. It puts a lot of pressure on the world to see this is the future and not just a fad. Electric bikes are here to stay.

The biggest problem people have with electric bikes is that initial mental image. Up until recently electric bikes have been toys and gimmicks. Not anymore. The Quantya, and this new KTM are proper motorbikes. Powerful and fully capable of scaring you to death.
